Today was a BIG day for Grace Crocker. And for her mommy and daddy.
Today Grace went to CAMP CAMP. What is CAMP CAMP? It is an amazing camp for children with special needs. A camp that several people have been raving about (mainly two awesome, gifted high school seniors that help us with Grace on our date nights but who also happen to volunteer at CAMP CAMP).
So, we decided we would finally give it a try!
The biggest deal about this is it's her first night to be away from any family. Yes, it is a spend the night camp!
The main thing that sealed the deal was the guarantee that Georgia, (one of the precious seniors I mentioned) could be Grace's counselor, like we're talking one on one.
Woosh. And I kid you not when I say that tears rolled down as I saw Georgia run up to our car to greet us when we arrived at CAMP today!
The next occasion for tears came when we walked into the check in room and we hear a big "Gracie, we're at CAMP CAMP!" Yes, her bestie Drew-man was there to greet her with a giant hug...his first time at CAMP CAMP also! Woosh again.
So after we check in, it's time to take her bags to her cabin and make her bunk bed.
And really, she is so fired up, she takes her suitcase and starts to roll it down the walkway like SUCH a big girl!
Truly, this could not have gone any better (however I'm still nervous to see how the us leaving her part is gonna go)...
We find Drew to tell him good bye and all start walking towards our car and...yes, Grace waves to us, basically saying, I'm good, get outa here.
Yep, so we quickly slip into our car, (and I shrink down, hoping she's not gonna turn back), and she marches on, off to explore with Georgia and Drew!
Thank you Lord for such a sweet day and victory in You!
(And yes, to follow up, today is the day after, we are back home and she did SO well. Tears came again from me once we were home...don't think I realized how big this was for her mommy and daddy either:)
